Adolescent Dog Snapped At Baby

I wrote to you some months ago and never write again, this because I didn’t have any drawback with my dog until now and this is case of keeping the dog or giving her away.

Last week the dog (9 months currently), growled to my two year old daughter and to my wife too when she tried to correct her after the action. They were watching TV and it looks like my daughter approached her face to the dog, she has done this before while not this sort of reaction and last night she pet her on her back and also the dog pull her lips up like if she was prepared to bite.

She never growls to anyone and she or he is terribly friendly and some times very submissive with people and different dogs.

I am thinking that this is something to try to to with my daughter’s stature, she may be a dwarf and I guess the dog appearance at her as lower level because she is really smaller than the dog.

I scan the book making an attempt to search out something to try and do however I see you recommend a skilled advice.

I do not wish to risk the security of my daughter or wife, if there is something I will strive that you just counsel I will appreciate.

Many thanks
Guillermo Rodriguez

Dear Guillermo:

I would take care about letting your daughter be around the dog at this age, however… I wouldn’t suggest getting rid of the dog if…

1. You acknowledge that a lot of than possible, primarily based on what you’ve got told me, you don’t have a bad dog. What you’ve seen is very common amongst young dogs. They’re reaching adolescents and are testing out their position within the pack. They are experimenting with new behaviors to work out what kind of response it will elicit from the rest of the pack. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU SHOULD ENDANGER YOUR CHILD, but rather that you wish to stay a terribly close eye on the two the least bit times.

She’ll doubtless do this behavior a couple a lot of times. When it happens, it should be met with a no-nonsense, very firm correction. (See page forty five and page 174) You need to “psych” her into believing that if she tries to damage you or any alternative member of the pack once more, then you’ll kill her. Make her never, EVER need to even THINK regarding making an attempt such a behavior again.

2. Let me repeat, this can be a terribly common behavior amongst young dogs. However, your child’s safety comes first. I would not let a young child of this age be in direct contact with a dog, period. No matter the dog.

Please let me grasp if there’s one thing you are doing not understand.

That is all for currently, people!
Adam
