When I first started looking for a big bird cage for my two parakeets, I wasn’t sure how big it should be or whether Charlie and Sweetie really needed a larger cage.  So I started to ask friends in a chat room about what they thought.  One of them suggested that I look for “flight bird cages”.  I really didn’t know what that was, but she quickly told me that it was for my birds so that they could actually fly in the cage.  That’s why it is called that.It was daffy of me, but I did not understand!  When I looked online, I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted right away.  So I decided to dedicate a site just to flight bird cages.

I have tons of information about why birds really should be able to fly inside of a cage, rather than all the time just out of their cage in the house.  my birds have loved their new cage and really do seem much happier.  Some of my points of why this type of cage is good for them are below.

Why I think Flight Bird Cages are necessary for birds:

My birds are a lot happier when they can fly around in their cage.The large cage lets them be very healthy since they can do their flying anytime they get the urge to.  It keeps their little bodies strong!

They are much safer in their cage if there are other pets in your dwelling, such as a cat or dog.If you can be with your pets during long periods of time, you will know that they are safe, happy and flying in their bird cage.  One word of caution that I read somewhere, so use your own idea on this, don’t put your birds in a round cage because it doesn’t give them any points of reference and they will be confused.  That’s why a lot of bird cages probably are hexagon or at least have corners.

The flight bird cages are perfect for breeding birds.I discovered that after Charlie and Sweetie started flying about in the bird cage, they began to mate.Just to make sure you understand that if you have had no luck with your birds mating, it might be because the birdcage they are in is not large enough.Allowing birds access to flight will enhance their ability to mate!

It makes your birds feel free.  When it is warm outside, I make sure that their cage is outdoors once in a while.  I think when they whistle at the people that go by is a very funny and cute thing.  The people seem to get a laugh out of it, and my neighbors love it.

You can clean the cage easier because of the room you have in it.  I found that the easier cages are to clean, they get changed and cleaned a lot more often.  Even my husband doesn’t mind cleaning it, and it takes less time than it used to with the smaller cage.

The flight bird cage I got for them is on a pedestal, so they are at eye level with us.  They love being able to be right there with us and talk to us a lot more often.This is because then they can be with us a lot, but just as safe.  They got used to being with all of us when they were in their smaller cage because I could pick it up and move it.  Even with this larger cage for them, it still makes it so easy.  Don’t forget, birds like to be part of the family too.

You will need something that is out of the other animals reach and off of the ground, so your other pets can’t reach it.That can be hard, but there are ways around all of that. You just might simply have to suspend your birdcage in the air by hanging it from the ceiling. You don’t want your bird in a constant state of stress due to other pets that you have.

You must remember to always keep up on the cleanliness and sanitation of your parrot’s birdcage. It doesn’t really matter which curios you choose to use as a liner, or how meticulously clean your bird seems to me, you are responsible for keeping it nice. This doesn’t only keep your bird healthy, but it helps to keep your home smelling nice as well. Bird cages that are not kept up can be overwhelmingly smelly, and this is something that you do not want. It is a good idea to clean the cage at least once a day, and even sometimes twice a day for the best possible living conditions for everyone involved.

A aviary is the most important piece of equipment you’ll need to purchase for your new bird. A suitable aviary can help your bird stay healthy and safe. There are so many types of aviaries, selecting the right one can be difficult for the new bird keeper.. How do you choose the right one?

Firstly, make a point to research about the the type of bird you wish to keep. If you would like to have any type of long tailed bird species, then you will need a long aviary for the bird to get enough exercise. It would be ideal for your bird if the aviary was sufficiently long enough for the bird to fly comfortably from side to side. A bird with a heavyset body, such as a lovebird or a Sengal parrot will get appropriate exercise climbing throughout the aviary. This type of bird does well in an aviary that is taller than it is wide.

You should then consider the size of the bird aviary. Generally you should plan to purchase the biggest aviary you can afford for your bird, a newly weaned handfed baby bird may feel lost and terrified in a large aviary. The young bird may have difficulty locating food and water dishes. If you can afford to do so, buying a smaller bird aviary when your bird is a baby would be a good idea and then change to a bigger aviary when it is older.

When choosing your bird aviary, keep in mind the spacing between the bars. Even the best bird aviary will not be very effective if your bird can fit throught the bars! If you want to use wire mesh on your bird aviary then it is best to measure the size your mesh to the size of your bird’s head. A bird aviary built with one inch mesh is just the right size for a cockatiel to stick a head through. It has been know for cockatiels to instead of taking their heas out through the same hole, to bend their neck into ‘U’ shape and put it into another hole.

Once you’ve determined on the aviary size and bar spacing, you should look at a few other facets of bird aviary design. Seeing the cage tray. When you pull it out to clean it, is there somehting, such as a grate to stop the bird from escaping? Will the tray be deep enough to catch most of the mess your bird makes? If your aviary has a deep tray but no cage apron then you may get a lot of seed hulls and feathers on the cage floor. Whilst you can put a plastic apron on the bottom of the aviary, a built in metal apron is a good characteristic.

As a final point don’t forget to have a look at the aviary cups. There should be a way to easily gain access to the cups without having to reach inside the aviary through the main door. If you are buying a bird aviary for a larger bird, the cups should actually bolt to the aviary unless you want to spend every morning and afternoon for the next 50 years reaching for cups that your bird has flung onto the bottom of the bird aviary

If you a replacing a bird aviary for an older parrot type bird, some owners have told me it’s crucial to get a bird cage of the same colour. They believe that if a bird is used to a coloured painted aviary, it will not cope easily with the metal coloured aviary.

Ideally a large cage is required. Ensure there is adequate space for the bird to climb, stretch and play inside the cage rather than it just sitting on a perch placed inside the bird aviary.
