For the cat lover on your list, you have a lot of options from which to choose. There seems to be quite an array of gadgetry available for cats, perhaps because they are so finicky! Mechanized water dishes are a fabulous choice, as they continuously filter water for the kitty. Cats tend to love drinking from a running water source, and you can give them this joy without wasting a large amount of water. You might be the most popular gift giver in the room if you give a self-washing, self-flushing cat box. Self-cleaning litter boxes are widely available, and make life just a bit easier for the cat owner. Also a possibility is buying a cat gym or a cat climber. These are best for people with active cats and with some extra space in their home.

For those looking to start their children with their first pet, consider tropical fish. Tropical fish are relaxing to watch, don’t take a huge amount of time to care for, and contribute to a tranquil environment. Tropical fish are a perfect pet option if you’re trying to teach responsibility to young children. Often, online retailers and pet stores sell starter kits with everything necessary to get your aquarium up and running. And kids are bound to love it!

It happens all around us, every hour of every day of every week. Thousands of helpless animals are ruthlessly beaten, starved, locked up by their owners. In some cases, neighbors or authorities witness these acts of hatred and can intervene to help the animal recover and find a new, real home. Many pets however are not this lucky, and often times, their only way out of such a living hell is death.

Christina is a real lover of pets and animals. Kitties are close to her heart. She has favorite name for them such as: Fluffy, Tamatha, and Mitten her first of the litter and real mischievous ones. Cocoa is the cool cat always relaxing. Jake is the one who stole the cake with the black tuxedo; Joshua the apple of her eyes in black and white; and Magic is just a precious soul. Magic has disappeared recently and hopefully by now has been found. Christina has written a special poem for Magic for magic.

So, you want to know how you can help? First, if you are a pet owner, never hit, kick, or physically harm your pet in any way shape or form. No matter how you put it, abuse is never acceptable. If situations arise where you find yourself in financial hardships, and are no longer able to provide proper care to your pet, take them to your nearest Humane, or “No-Kill” Animal Shelter. Organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States are devoted to helping all animals find permanent, loving homes. Extensive background checks are performed on all adoption applicants, so you can rest assured knowing that your pet will find a safe, new home.

Another way to help animals is to never buy pets from breeders or pet stores. Why are breeders trying to profit off of their dogs’ pregnancies when there is already an abundance of loving animals that desperately need homes? Pet stores buy their animals from puppy mills, large-scale commercial dog breeding facilities that operate under substandard conditions. Dogs who are bred in puppy mills are locked in cramped cages often times without food or water, covered in their own feces, sometimes spending their entire lives without stepping outside.

One aspect that is always special and stands out in Christina’s book is her parents. Tributes are always given to them for their love and nurturing. Additionally, her children are next to her heart, and accolades are rendered upon them by a precious mother. The love of family certainly has a special place in her heart.   Christina is truly amazing in the way she brings Tinniesville, a rural small town, into her poems. Her articulation is wonderful regarding the story of this town. This is an excellent short story taken apart and written as a poem for everyone to enjoy in a different style of reading. This is so brilliant! Once again this creativity speaks of her excellent style of writing.  

This book is also a teaching tool. Reading about the Australian Kookaburra is a lesson in itself. I was under the impression this was a relative of the Kangaroo until I finally read the page and saw the picture. How amazing! Additionally, Denny the Dolphin is such fun to read about. Wait until you see Donna who is teasing Denny to take a leap with her. They are so fantastic and are attached to each other.   The variety of poetry forms used in this book is an education to the reader. I like how the Tanka form describes the hawk, and the Nonet form the eagle. The Quatrain form gives deep vision to The Doggy Tales, The Bunny Rabbits, Bear Family, Tiger’s Plight, The Flying Squirrel, and others. I also like the pictures used with each poem.  

Her articulation of the haiku and senryu poems is just amazing.   Her bifurcated string of these poems is excellent in describing animals and their relationships. The pictures of the Sly Skunk and Prairie Dog are neatly positioned with each page and corresponding poem.   This is certainly another wonderful publication by Christina in her series of book and poetic collection. She is certainly building a library for her readers. Having known Christina for many years, being familiar with her creative poetic style, and having read all four of her book, I can attest to the fact that she is an awesome poetess.

Even pets that normally spend all of their time outside need and appreciate a warm place to sleep on those bitter cold winter nights. Almost any place will do. A mud room or a garage is often a great choice to protect your pet from rain, wind, snow and frigid temperatures. Consider the following to protect your pet.

It having the pet inside is not possible, then try to provide a warm dog house. Waterproof burlap helps to keep rain and wind outside of the house when hung over the door. It also helps to keep body heat inside so that your dog has a warm spot out of the weather. You can also add wood shavings or straw to the inside of the dog house to give the pet a place to burrow and stay even warmer.

Pets that stay outside during the cold will need an extra portion of food for these very cold days. Their bodies require the food in order to provide the heat that is needed for them to keep warm.

When water is freezing outside, you pet still needs to have water to drink. Provide fresh water three to four times every day. Cold windy weather can lead to dehydration in pets, so for their health, be sure that you provide the water that is needed.

Your diet plays a crucial role in figuring out your total health. The same is the case with your pet. Thus, it only makes sense if you pay rather more attention while selecting dog food for your pet. Pet insurance can actually be very important for many reasons as our house has just recently found out. We have actually had our retriever for many years now and he doesnt seem to have had that many problems which is always good, he has had a skin condition that is rather common with a retriever but other than that nothing.

However recently his eye has been weeping and over time a small black lump has started to grow over his eye. To make sure that he was okay we took him to the vet because we had to keep wiping his eye which he didnt really like if I am honest and it just isnt fair on the dog. the first time we took him they said he was fine but he would need to come back after we had used some eye drops on him.

To make sure that it stayed away they said that they would need to do a small operation on the eye. The cost was a very large £300. Although this doesnt sound like it is much of a bill compared to other people if you think about it then you will realise it is a lot of money over the festive season. It is actually very lucky that we still had the pet insurance because we were thinking about putting an end to it.

So it just goes to show that you may need insurance when you don’t think you do. You can even get things like puppy insurance which of course are based around the younger dogs.

If you are thinking about going away to a colder climate this year then make sure you do not forget your ski insurance.

Keeping pets off your new furniture is not an easy task, as any one with experience in the mater will confirm. Like it or not, pets seem to have a fascination with jumping on your bed, lounging on your sofa and even exploring your wardrobe every now and then. Owners probably wouldn’t mind if they didn’t do any harm whilst on the furntiure, but this is often not the case. Training. It is only by making sure your pets are trained well that you will ensure they keep off your expensive living room and bedroom furniture. If you can train your pets early in their life then you stand the best chance, because as the saying goes, ‘you can’t teach and old dog new tricks’. If you can teach them that the furniture is not their plaything, but instead for their owners to use, that is great. However, many people do let their pets on certain pieces of furniture, in which case your pets should know which ones they are allowed on, and which are forbidden.

Pet deterrents. If training your pets was never on the agenda and now they respect you as much as their fleas do, you’ll need to tackle the problem head on. You can buy certain powders and sprays that cats, dogs and other animals simply detest. These tend to have quite citrusy smells that are pleasant to humans but are too much for animals with sensitive smell.

Discipline. This ties in with training, but even pets that have had no training at all with still respond to correct discipline. This doesn’t mean that you should hit your pets every time they jump on the chair or bedside cabinets, but instead be consistent with how you react when they do. Make sure you don’t let them get away with lying on the bed one day, only to chastise them the next. Use loud short noises to tell them no, and praise them when they don’t jump up.
