Preventing Dog Biting

A dog would bite for several reasons. It is important that these reasons are understood in order to effectively stop dog biting

Older dogs would be harder to train in most cases. Therefore, this requires longer time of training. The ease or difficulty of training the dog could also be checked through the dog’s breed.

Dogs may bite out of fear. Letting the dog socialize is the most effective solution to this. Owners must let their pets mingle with other dogs. But this should be done over time. Putting the dogs on leashes will help prevent them from biting. Soon, the dog will be accustomed in mingling with other dogs and people and this will eliminate the biting.

Stop Biting Dog

There are also dogs that bite not because they are afraid but because they want to display dominance. In this case, owners can use muzzles to prevent the dogs biting. In this way, the canine will know that biting is not good. Owners can reinforce this by teaching the dog with verbal commands that would stop it from biting.

Sometimes, the dog bites because it is just overly excited. To avoid these dogs from biting, owners should also avoid playing games that would increase the dog’s excitement. Observing the dog while playing will help in this program. Quickly stop the game if it is observed that the dog begins to be aggressive or excited.

In some instances, the dog’s biting behavior is not eliminated totally. But it is not the time to give up. When the dog still continues to bite even after a long training, the best thing to do is to educate and inform the people around. If the dog will have close contacts with humans or other animals, restrain the dog with leash and if possible, put a muzzle on.

Same with all the other training activities, always include giving rewards and restrain hurting the dog.

Owners should be persistent in the training. In the long run, owners will benefit the most in this activity. Once owners are able to learn how to stop dog biting, they are not only saving their dogs from possible dog euthanasia, but also saving themselves from complaints, medical bills and other expenses caused by dog biting.

Do all that you can do.  Unfortunatly I am sorry to say, some dogs may not be able to be cured.

Ideas To Stop Dog Chewing

Who hasn’t sacrificed a newspaper, a pillow or the leg of a chair to there pets chewing routine. Even though your question is “how do I halt my dog from chewing” it should really be “how can I redirect the chewing pattern of my dog”.

The reason is you are not going to put a complete halt to your dog’s chewing. Chewing is part of your canine’s life.

Being your dog is going to chew, give him plenty of things to choose from.

Begin by providing him with all kinds of gnaw toys. Make sure you put these toys in all of the rooms that your dog spends his time in. This should hurry the process along and keep your dog from chewing on the things that cost a lot of money.

How To Stop The Chewing

Take the time to look the toys over every so often and eliminate those that are worn. Remember to try a variety of toys until you find the ones that your pet really enjoys.

Anytime your dog chews on something that he is not supposed to, screaming and yelling at your pet will not be the method that teaches him to act appropriately. Instead of punishing your pet, let’s go ahead and reinforce the positive.

Right as your dog starts to tear up the newspaper, give a crisp “NOOO” and flip him his favorite toy. Give him a “that a boy” when you see him go for his own chew toy.

Stop Dog From Chewing

There are also a few ways to make the chewing unpleasant for your dog.

One option is the scat mat. Scatter them around in the areas that you want your dog to avoid. Don’t worry the scat mat is basically harmless.

You can also try applying “bitters” or something like that on the items that he has been known to ches on. Your local pet store may have these things. These ideas may be way out there but they are other ideas.

Remember, dogs are going to chew, just try to direct the chewing towards the proper objects.
